It Was The Ice Cream And Pie

The blueberry pie and homemade ice cream are long gone, but the extra calories are still around in the form of extra padding in certain unmentionable spots.  Not to mention the Bar B Q ribs, corn, burgers, chips, hot dogs.   It was all delicious when we were pigging out on it, but now ugh!

The Murph and I are not going down without a fight.  We went to the gym and worked out twice today and The Murph only drank a smoothie all day.  No food until dinner and then only protein.  I had to eat more than that, but I did more cardio at the gym to burn it off.  And no adult beverages of any kind.

These guys are always hungry.  A couple of them could use some exercise and a little less pie.  You can see in Phantom's face that he wants food now, not pictures taken.   I can imagine he's saying, "Put that camera down now dammit and feed me!  I'm starving to death here!"

We finally set up a home gym of sorts in the bonus room upstairs.  My old tri bike is on the compu-trainer and we have the treadmill and there's an assortment of dumbbells.  Our goal is to use it for extra evening cardio sessions in addition to our regular morning workouts at the gym.  As always, no matter where in the house I start taking pictures, it seems I disturb one of the cats.  This time it was Ed.  All comfy on the settee.  Make no mistake, this is Ed and Boo's room.  We are just visiting.

Ed's getting a little nervous with this strange contraption set up near his napping spot.

Ed was glad when I finally left him alone to get back to his nap.  Naps are very important when you're a cat.  My cats are very good at napping all day while we are awake and then staying up making noises and playing all night while we are trying to get our naps.

Also, the Boy is doing so much better!  I called Dr. W and he is going to work us in sometime this week.  I can hardly believe the difference in him since he started on the new meds last week.

The Cardio Challenged Murph

The other day at the gym I mentioned to a woman I know that usually works out the same time as the Murph and I that the Murph had just bought a new bike so we were going for a ride later.  Of course, we didn't do the bike ride.  The Murph somehow weaseled his way out of it.  That was a week ago and the Murph still hasn't been on that bike.
The Murph's new bike.
Looks real nice but probably won't be used much.
(really cool reflectors!!)

Yesterday the same woman asked if we ever did the ride and I said "no, the Murph said it was too windy."

Today she was working out with the fitness instructor that teaches the Spinerval class that the Murph keeps saying he's going to do, but never does and they cornered the Murph over by the weight machine and asked him if he had ridden his bike yet.  He said "no, too windy, I don't ride in the wind."  The fitness instructor said "Oh, that's just another excuse!"

The Murph works out every single day and sometimes twice, but he ONLY does weights.  He avoids cardio at ALL cost.  He has a million and one excuses and always says he's going to do cardio  "tomorrow" or start on a cardio schedule "next week".  You would think that since he's with me (a ironman triathlete cardio freak) that some of it would rub off on him.  No way!  He's the Murph!

I told him he's just cardio challenged.

Spinervals without "Sylvester"

Today was Spinervals with J.  I was surprised last week at how sore my legs were after doing this workout.   It involves getting on the spin bike for about 15 to 20 minutes and then getting off to do weights, lunges whatever and then getting back on the spin bike for 15 minutes then off again for weights, etc. for about a 50 minute total workout with three sets of weights/lunges.

The Murph said he was going to start doing more cardio and I thought he might do Spinervals today since he didn't do it last week.  He even told the spin instructor last week that he was going to start doing the spin class.  But just not today...  The closest the Murph got to the spin bikes was to give me a kiss goodbye and then he was off to the weight room.  It was probably a wise decision because for somebody who doesn't do a lot of intense cardio, that class will KILL you.  I told the Murph he would breeze through the weights part, but there's absolutely no way he would last through the spinning part.  Instead of considering that a challenge, the Murph said he would just come in and do the weights with us and go back out when we get back on the bikes.  Then he laughed and said "the dumbbells we use were just paper weights for girls and wimps."  (He said this followed by a Sylvester Stallone he man kind of laugh.)

After the class, the spin instructor came up to the Murph as we were doing crunches and in a deep, Sylvester Stallone voice, mocking the Murph,  said she thought the Murph  had said "I'm going to start doing spin class.  I need more cardio".  The Murph's mouth dropped open and he said "Hey, do I really sound like that??  That's what Kristy always does!  I don't really sound like that, do I??"

We just laughed.  Yes, he does sound like that!   I'd love to see his ass in that Spinervals class!  He'd never make it all the way through!
