Good-bye Sweet Boo

Today we buried Boo, our 14 year old cat.  When I first started this blog last August, some of my first posts was an introduction to all the cats.  Click Here to read the post about Boo.

Last night the emergency vet gave us this box to bury Boo.  They put flowers on the box and wrote his name on it.  He had already passed away by the time we got to the vet.  He was probably gone before we even got him in the car.  We did everything we could to save him, but it was his time to go.  Boo did give us one final laugh when he didn't fit inside the box.  That's just the way he was.

The vet told us they had to go up to a bigger size box because Boo just wouldn't fit in the normal kitty size one.  That's our Boo!  He never missed a meal, not even on his last day on earth.  He made sure he waited until after dinner to go.  He even made sure he ate Ed's dinner first.

I put his favorite stuffed Santa toy inside the box with him.  He carried that thing around everywhere with him after he finally gave up the doll torso.

RIP Boo.  The best cat in the world.

A POEM FOR THE GRIEVING...

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...

  1. Awwww. :((
But it's sadly funny how he made sure and ate his and Ed's dinner before he decided to "check out"...and that he had to have a supersized coffin.
Boo had a great life and did not suffer. Take comfort in that.

    1. Thanks Stephanie. Boo did have a great life and I know he's in Heaven playing with his toys. Just wanted to keep him with us a little while longer.

  2. That's nice that you had a funeral for Boo. We chose to have Max cremated and we got a clay disk with his paw print in it. Deep breath. Losing a pet is painful and I wish you well.

    1. It's good you got the clay disk with Max's paw print. Something to remember your special pet. It is really hard losing a pet. We are better today since we all finally got some sleep last night, including poor little Ed. There is still a void, but time will make it better. We still have our other 3 little kitties to love and take care of.

    1. Thanks Lizbeth. It's going to be okay. He was old so we knew we wouldn't have him much longer. I was hoping for at least 2 more years though. He was a great kitty.

  4. So, so sorry to hear about this loss as I know losing a pet is losing a family member. Elderly animals I know are thankful for our offering them the care and safety they need . . . .

  6. Wow.....I am grieving for you over here sweetie. :( It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. Our cat had drank antifreeze the other day the vet thinks and we ended up taking him in. We thought we were going to lose him. My heart breaks for you. I've been there before where I've held our sick chinchilla in our arms when he took his last breath. The box is an amazing idea. I just love the flowers you set on top of it too. (Hugs)

    1. Thanks! I really appreciate it. I sure hope you kitty is okay. The vet gave us the box and put Boo in it for us and put the flowers on the box. We thought it was really thoughtful of them. Sorry about your chinchilla. So sad! :(
