I never should have gotten the flu shot because now I'm sick. If I had never gotten the shot, I'm sure I would be fine now. The Murph doesn't believe in the flu shot and he didn't understand why I got one without first consulting him. I had to laugh about that because I'm not that use to consulting anyone about my shots unless he's a doctor. He got the last laugh because I'm the one sick and he's all "I told you so!"
I don't think I have the flu, but since I just got the flu shot a week ago, I'm blaming it on my illness. I've spent most of the day napping with the cats and drinking plenty of fluids because I feel terrible and dehydrated. To top things off I'm still extremely sore from the race Sunday. That doesn't help matters. I'm sick and sore and dehydrated.
Being sick hasn't stopped me from trying to find another race to do. I wanted to do Little Rock Marathon this spring, but just discovered it's sold out. Crap! I wasn't sure how I was going to fit the 20 mile training runs in and do Mercedes half marathon two weeks before Little Rock full marathon and not get injured, but it would have been doable. Now I'm thinking of giving up the idea of running a spring marathon and look for an Ironman 70.3 to do.
It takes a long time for my legs to recover from running a full marathon and I don't want to mess up triathlon season recovering from a marathon. It has to be planned out well ahead of triathlon season. A March marathon would have been ideal. I'll get back to looking for an Ironman 70.3 to do that's not full yet.
First I need more Advil. And another nap.

I hope you feel better soon, and I've never had a flu shot either. We've also never gotten Jacob the shot either. I'd rather him get sick and have his immune system fight it off, but I understand that some people need them to be on the safe side. They're just not for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim. This is only the second time ever that I've gotten the flu shot. Don't know why I did this year. I'm glad the Boy refused to get one the other day when I got mine. He's never gotten one either. I won't get one next year that's for sure.
DeleteI didn't know races could be sold out. What, they have no street space left?
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in the flu shot either - except for the elderly and those with immune deficiencies.
Get well soon. No running til then. Right? :)
Good question! Yes, they do sell out. Most Ironman races sell out hours after registration opens. Some smaller marathons don't fill up or they fill up at the last minute. I was hoping I could wait and still get in Little Rock but I waited to long. :(
DeleteRaces have limits I guess cause they have to plan on water/gator aid/ medical assistance on the course for runners. The more runners, the more resources are needed and volunteers and organization, etc. Also, some cities are just too small to handle a large number of racers and their families. Not every city can be like Boston. But that's a good thing! I like variety in races and racing venues.
Hope you feel better soon. I'm stuck at home with a really strange sore throat, so I feel your pain - except for all that running stuff!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's how mine started. A strange sore throat. More strange then sore. I think I caught something when I was in Mobile doing the race. Hope you get better soon too!
ReplyDeleteGosh I do hope you feel better dear! Having aches and pains is a bummer but I'm glad you're running
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I am feeling better. Now if I can just get over this cough soon.
