Sorry To Neglect You Konabarbie Blog!

Today when I got on this blog I realized I haven't done a blog post since Tuesday. Apparently my half ironman training isn't the only thing getting neglected around here!

What can I say except it's been a really busy summer. I don't know exactly why it's been so busy, but it has been and it's flown by so fast. Tomorrow will be September already! Maybe I'll even do a new September yoga kitty pose blog post because it seems that I missed Ms. August's pose entirely.

I think.

Friday was yesterday so there's no fashion Friday this week. I totally missed it again! This is as much fashion as I can handle these days. As I was washing clothes the other day it seemed like everything was either work out wear or lounge wear, not really pj's, but close. Nothing I would wear in a public setting.

Thursday we went out to meet some friends who drove over from Daphne for dinner. I wore this Free People maxi dress that I love. I don't know how long it will last before either I wear it to threads or my cat, Cadence does a number to it with his paws. He is very talented at pulling threads with those sharp talons of his.

Dress:  Free People;  Purse: Coach; Necklace: purchased at an art show several years ago; Bracelet: old

It was a very pleasant evening. I tried a new drink similar to an Orange Julius. It was a delicious frozen concoction that tasted just like those orange and white dreamsicles. So delicious that I didn't even have time to get a picture before it disappeared. It was so rich and delectable that I decided I better not get sa second one so I chose the Chipotle Pineapple Mojoto.

Pineapple with a little bite and almost gone before I remembered to get a photo.

I also got a Strawberry Mango Mojito, but no photos because our friends had arrived and I don't know if they would understand the weirdness of taking food and drink photos that we bloggers tend to do. It was bad enough they had to suffer through cat stories. Luckily, they are cat people too and have four of their own so they understand. They even had their own cat stories. We shared photos of our four legged babies. Well at least I did. She had left her phone in the car so no photos.

I also didn't get a photo of the food, but I got the shrimp and grits and they got grouper sandwiches. The Murph chose very ice cold beer and lots of it! He got take out later at his favorite sports bar down the road.

Our view from the restaurant...

Phantom is doing good with all the chemo and holistic things he's on. He even has his own blog now. He just begged me for one so how could I resist? Click Here for his latest post about the Boy's visit.

We had to come to Birmingham this weekend and of course Phantom has to come too. He LOVES it because he is the "only"cat while we are here for the weekend and he gets ALL the attention. He's at my feet right this very minute as I'm typing this post listening to the jazz CD that the Murph has playing. Somebody named Paul Desmond who played with Dave Brubeck in "Take Five". Something I'm suppose to remember because I've heard it before, but I don't. The Murph rolls his eyes and says my cat has better taste in music than I do. I'm sure I would remember it if I heard it again. I hear jazz every single night so it's no wonder I'm confused about which CD is "Take Five".

The one we are listening to now is a very nice CD. Phantom loves the saxophone. Now if we could just get him to eat! He only eats when the other cats are around so they can't get any.

Mac Daddy's Theme Song

FYI Mac Daddy is a car.  One of the fleet of cars in our driveway, all of which have names.  Mac Daddy is the biggest luxury car that gets neglected most of the time because we prefer to drive the SUV.  The Murph named the SUV the Black Panther.  It's considered my car because I have to have something big to carry around all my stuff.  Triathletes need big cars to carry all their stuff.  It's mandatory.

The other car that the Boy use to drive is called the Silver Bullet and the convertible is Little Red.  It only gets driven during the warm months.  During the colder months, like now, Mac Daddy gets driven more just so it gets a little attention. The Boy's Jag has no name and gets no attention whatsoever.  Both the Silver Bullet and the Jag will hopefully be up for sale soon.

Honestly, we really don't need Mac Daddy either since we have the Black Panther and Little Red, but try to explain that to the Murph.  Our driveway looks like a used car lot right now.

Mac Daddy

But I digress.  The reason for this post is because over the past year or so, every time I've ridden in Mac Daddy, the same CD is playing.  That CD is a jazz one by Miles Davis called Kind of Blue (find it here.)  The first song, All Blues, always starts playing the minute the car is running.  Like EVERY SINGLE TIME I'M IN THAT CAR!  It's another one of those songs that sticks in my head and stays there for the rest of the day.

Today I finally deemed that song as Mac Daddy's theme song.  Have you ever heard of a car that had it's own theme song?

Well, now you have!

Hey Eugene

I just wanted to share the latest song that is stuck in my head.  Not since Nicki Minaj's "Starships" have I had a song that's driving me nuts.  What makes this even worse than that time when "Starships" was stuck in my head is the fact that The Murph now plays this CD every night when he goes to bed and then again every morning when he wakes up.  Which means that I hear it every night when I'm going to bed and every morning when I wake up.  At least when "Starships" was stuck it my head it was only on my ipod and therefore self-inflicted.  I'm pretty sure The Murph doesn't have a Nicki Minaj CD hidden somewhere among John Coltrane and Thelonius Monk.  Where he came across this CD by Pink Martini I'll never know.  He's kind of non-mainstream when it comes to music.  I like that about him.

The Murph usually has some non-offensive jazz CD playing at night and in the morning, but he dug this Pink Martini one out the other day because he said he thought I would LIKE it.  When I first heard the song "Hey Eugene", which is the very first song on the CD,  I thought it was the strangest, stupidest song I had ever heard.  Before I knew it though, I was going through the house singing "HEY EUGENE" at the top of my lungs.  I started calling Phantom "Phantom Eugene" and then all the cats became Eugene and I was singing/yelling at them "Hey Eugene!  Are you theeerre Eugene!  I say hello, Eugene!  HELLOOO EUGENE!!" and now the cats aren't sure who or what or which one of them is Eugene, but what they do seem to know is it's extremely annoying.  In other words, I'm extremely annoying.  Now they are all collectively called "Eugene", not Phantom, Cadence or Ed.

They've started avoiding me unless they want kitty Party mix.

While the song is questionable at this point, I do like the bands name, Pink Martini.  It reminds me of the signature drink at our wedding.   A pink martini.  French martini.  Love them!  If I had a band, I would love to call it Pink Martini.  Only that name is taken now and I'm a really awful singer.  Just ask anyone who's ever heard me.

Things have calmed down a little today and I think I've only called Cadence "Eugene" just once, but I'm pretty sure I'll hear the song again tonight when I'm getting ready for bed.  Then it will start all over again.  The Boy's picked a good week to spend some time over at his dad's and away from me and that darn song.   Aside from that time he took violin lessons and that time he taught himself how to play an electric guitar because he wanted to be in a band, he's not a music fan, especially not jazz and especially, especially not whatever this "Hey Eugene" music is called.  I honestly don't think it fits any musical category, but what I do know is that it sticks in your head and you can't get it out.

"Hey Eugene! Are you there, Eugene?"

Make it stop!

Ellis Marsalis - Snug Harbor

Last night Ken and I saw Ellis Marsalis play at Snug Harbor jazz bistro in the New Orleans French Quarter.  Ken is an avid jazz fan and while I love music of all kinds,  I am sort of a newbie to any jazz that hasn't been mainstreamed.   It was a coincidence that we had tickets to see his son Wynton Marsalis in Birmingham Friday night, but couldn't make it because my marathon is this weekend.  Instead, we were able to see another Marsalis.  I have to say it was my favorite performance that Ken has dragged me to so far.  Amazing!  While photos and videos weren't allowed in the restaurant, I found this video on You tube.
