The Alien House

Alien House Pensacola Beach Florida

Hello Mr. Alien!
I have always found this house on Pensacola Beach, FL a little ummmm "interesting".  It was built in the late 60's and has survived several hurricanes and apparently a tornado recently.  I did some research on it and it is really just a modular house that is designed to float in case of floods or hurricanes so the aliens were just added as a novelty I guess.  It was flown here and put on it's landing pad by helicopter in the 60's or 70's.  I wonder if it did flood and float off somewhere would the owners be able to find it?  Maybe in the Bahamas somewhere....  In the meantime the little green alien is watching all the bikers and runners going by.

Big smile!  Say "cheese"!

  1. i know that house!!! (but never got close enough to see an alien inside!) as you know, my dad started taking us to pensacola when we were 10, and every time we went to the beach, we'd have to look at that "flying saucer house", as i called it.
my dad told us it was built that way for aerodynamics, to make it more hurricane resistant- as your research indicates. it must've worked; every time there was a hurricane, my aunt would tell us "the flying saucer house is still there."
wonder what it's like inside....you should meet the owners and get a tour!

  2. I don't think the alien has always been there. New owners must have put it there a few years ago. It looks really small in the flying saucer and the "landing pad" below doesn't look very big either. I use the house to help count mileage. To the alien house and back is 3 miles.

  3. yeah, i always thought it seemed tiny. there's another roundish house on p'cola beach somewhere...i can't remember the precise location...maybe you've seen it, too. i think it may be octagonal, but it's a roundish shape and on the ground.

there was a cool looking round house (really more octagonal) on tortola, too, above brewer's bay. i always wondered about how the rooms would be arranged. i did stay in an octagon house on virgin gorda once but it was hard to tell what was going on with it- it was under long-term construction. unusual architecture fascinates me!

  4. I have seen the other round house in Pensacola Beach. It looks like an igloo and is over on the other side of Via Deluna (that main road that runs down PCB. It is on the gulf side. I think we ran by it during Santa Rosa Tri (or came close), not sure because I was a little delirious.
